The Carib Indians called the island Madinina, which means “Island of the Flowers”. And still Martinique has a lot of colorful flowering plaints, with the type of vegetation varying with altitude.
The guests will come aboard at Fort de Francethe islands capital.
Next day we will sail toTrois-Ilets. What was the birthplace of Maria Joseph Rose Tascher de la Pagerie, the future Empress Josephine, the wife of Napoleon. The former sugar estate is now a museum, which you can visit.
The third day we sail to Anse Mitan. Anse Mitan is nice small village with a central habour and some nice shops and restaurants. The sandy Plage de l' Anse Mitan extends north from the village.
From Anse Mitan we will sail to Saint-Pierre where we exploring the ruins from the 1902 volcanic eruption. It’s a fascinating town to wander around. There are ruins throughout Saint-Pierre, some of which are little more than foundations, others partially intact. A beach of soft black sand fronts the town and extends to the south.
The end of the tour is Fort-de-France, the island capital. It is the largest and most cosmopolitan city in the French West Indies. It is also a shopper’s paradise where shops sell the latest Paris fashion, perfumes, crystal, silk scarves etc. Give yourself time to wander around and take in the handful of historic sites the city has to offer.
If guests wants they also can make daytrips to the botanical garden, Jardin de Balata, or a rum factory or take the route de la trace, a beautiful drive trough a lust rain forest of tall tree ferns, anthurium covered hill sides and thick clumps of roadside bamboo. The road passes along the eastern flanks of the pointed volcanic mountain peaks of the Pitons de Carbet. Several hiking trails lead into the rain forest.
This one-week tour is also possible as a 2 weeks in combination with the island Dominica or St. Lucia.
